Our goal here at Thompson and Thompson DDS, PA is to give you something to smile about, and we work to make that happen beginning with your very first visit to our office.
This first visit is a time for getting to know your dentist. Whether you are here to see Dr. Ben Thompson or Dr. Susan Thompson, you will find that they spend a great deal of time with you at this appointment. All of the information collected during this time is used in treatment planning and assessment.

Medical History
We gather a comprehensive medical history by having you complete our new patient paperwork. We realize your time is valuable, and to avoid a delay in your appointment, we kindly ask that you submit your paperwork the day before your appointment. New patient paperwork can be completed on our website and will automatically be submitted to our office upon completion.
Diagnostic Information
Your first visit is an opportunity for us to gather information about the current state of your oral health. In most cases, we will take a full mouth series of radiographs. If you have this diagnostic information from your previous dentist, you are welcome to bring it with you to your appointment.
We will conduct a thorough head and neck examination to screen for issues such as oral cancer and temporomandibular joint function. We also will examine your mouth and complete a periodontal charting, which lists and describes the health of your teeth and gums.
This information is used to identify any potential issues you might be experiencing, and it helps us in treatment planning and prioritizing your treatment needs.
This first exam also helps us determine what type of dental cleaning you need.
If it is appropriate and time allows, one of our dental hygienists will professionally clean your teeth following this examination. In some cases, we may recommend that other pressing treatment needs be addressed prior to teeth cleaning, and follow-up appointments will be scheduled as necessary.
